Biology Tutoring: Reach Out Today

Updated: Nov 2

I get it! Biology can be challenging - it covers a vast amount of material. We are, after all, studying life! But yes, complex concepts, detailed processes, and the sheer volume of information can make it difficult to keep up and feeling overwhelmed shouldn't be your day to day. If you want to improve your understanding and help your grades, someone on your side can make all the difference. I offer personalized tutoring to help students grasp difficult topics, build confidence, and achieve academic success.

How to Get Started

Enrolling is easy! Call or text me at 727-277-5783 (leave a message with your name, number, and subject - cause I'm probably tutoring!). Or you can email me at jillsciencetutor@gmail.com

If you live near Rochester, IN we can do one-on-one...otherwise I'm all about Zoom!

Why Choose Tutoring with Dr. Harper-Judd?

Biology covers everything from cell structure to ecosystems -and students struggle for lots of reasons! Large classes don't help, and honestly I'm not a fan of "open your computer and do this assignment". I'll have to get into that more in another post, but the bottom line is that I believe teachers should be allowed to teach. I have maintained for many years that the single best thing we can do in our schools - way beyond throwing money at digital bells and whistles - is to just have smaller classes. It wouldn't fix everything, but it would make a good start. In the meantime, tutoring does help fill the gap. I can offer

  • Study skills so you can bring your "A game".

  • Lessons presented in a learning format that works best for you.

  • Clear explanations that break down complex ideas into simple terms.

  • Plenty of interactive practice to make sure you are making progress.

  • Flexible scheduling via Zoom to fit your busy life.

In some classes, memorization is the key. But with science, there is a lot more. The goal is to help you understand how biological systems work and why they matter. This deeper understanding makes it easier to apply knowledge in exams and real-world situations (and it'll make your next science class easier too!).

I encourage questions and I am highly supportive. I don't want you feeling down on yourself, frustrated, or embarrassed by needing help. We can all use some help from time to time and that is OK!

How Tutoring Sessions Work

Each tutoring session is designed to maximize learning in a focused, manageable time frame. But you DON'T need to learn everything all at once! Here’s what you can expect:

  1. Assessment and goal setting

In the first session we will get to know each other, talk about your past experiences, current knowledge, and what you want to get out of tutoring. Your job: Upload your class materials (lectures or assignments) at jillsciencetutor@gmail.com. Let me know your schedule of topics and due dates. If you know something specific you aren't understanding, tell me that too! My job: To go over what you send me and come up with several solutions based approaches.

  2. Targeted lessons

Sessions focus on specific topics you find challenging, using examples and exercises tailored to your learning style. Or we can prep for a test.

  3. Practice and review

You’ll work through practice questions and receive feedback to reinforce understanding.

  4. Homework support

I can help you with biology assignments and projects to ensure that you can apply what you've been learning (move from the textbook (or computer) into the real world).

  5. Exam preparation

Before tests, we can go over review sheets, key concepts, practice questions, test-taking strategies to boost confidence.
